ABOUT ALEXANDRA
Alexandra Valmarana has more than 25 years of experience in sustainable conservation and design. As a Senior Partner at Peregrine Bryant Architects in London, she led award-winning projects across Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean, for buidlings ranging from the 13th to the 21st centuries.
Her work includes new design, adaptive reuse, and specialized conservation across multiple sectors including residential, industrial, museum, healthcare, and education. She has designed and led major projects for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Crown Estate, the National Trust, the Landmark Trust and private clients. Projects include the Royal Hospital Chelsea, the Travellers Club, Belmont House, the Royal Astronomical Society at Burlington House, and St Helen and St. Katharine School among other private Grade 1 listed sites.
With a strong focus on material science, heritage impact, and sustainability, she integrates innovation and technology into historic environments, ensuring sustainable use without compromising architectural integrity. She also contributes to the field through international lectures, publications, documentaries, and her position on several global architecture, educational and social enterprise boards.
Alexandra designs and manages projects from inception to completion including carrying out feasibility studies, quinquennial and historic structure reports, consents, environmental design and construction management. She particularly enjoys the interaction of technology and innovation in historic structures through sustainable materials, and finding adaptive re-uses without compromising integrity.

CAREER & EDUCATION
Alexandra di Valmarana was educated in the US and UK. She holds a MSc with Distinction from the School of Architecture and Engineering at the University of Bath, UK and a BArH from the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia, USA.
After university Alexandra was an architectural consultant to the Farmer’s Museum, an open-air buildings museum in New York. She also worked as Site Manger on a project to rescue a Virginia plantation house from demolition by disassembling, re-locating, and rebuilding the house to museum standards.
In 1997 Alexandra joined Peregrine Bryant Architects, the London based firm of architects and conservation specialists. She joined Peregrine as a Senior Partner in the firm in and in 2011 became a Consultant to the firm. She continues to work with Peregrine on some highly renowned buildings – see here for a sample of her work.
Alexandra is a member of the Green Register and a strong supporter of sustainable design. She sits on the boards of various organisations, and also writes and lectures – find out more here. Her previous site and construction experience has been a leading force in her practical approach to project management and design. She feels that teamwork and a creative approach helps resolve difficult architectural problems and enjoys working with the client to understand their needs to find the best solutions through design.
She lives in Northamptonshire, England with her husband, Francesco, and their two daughters.
